Michigan Wineries

| Community

The holidays are over and you are going a bit cabin crazy, right? Well, that’s the reason for this week’s blog. Let’s get you out and about and what finer reason then to visit a few notable Michigan Wineries!  Grab your hat and mittens and let’s go!

The first stop begs the question, have you ever tasted Mead? Do you know what it is? It’s actually a honey-wine made of honey, water, and beer-yeast. Quite sweet, but very good! There are dry versions and even sparkling. If you are interested in learning more about mead then you must visit the tasting room at Schramm’s Mead at 327 W. Nine Mile Road in Ferndale.

Maybe you in the mood for some live entertainment with your beverage. How about reliving the days of the Dead? The Grateful Dead that is. There is a band called “Dead at the Winery” who pays tribute to the Grateful Dead. You can catch them every Thursday and if you can’t make it on a Thursday you can still catch some local bands which play every Friday and Saturday at the Northville Winery and Brewing Company.   There is a tap-room which is an extension of the cider mill and a brewery. You will definitely have an enjoyable evening. Have a girls’ night out or enjoy a date night!

If you are still able to fit in another stop then don’t miss Spicer’s Winery in Fenton. They are open Thursdays through Sundays from 11 am to 5 pm according to their website. You’ll find spiked hot cider, fruit wines, hard ciders, sweet & semi-sweet wines and dry & semi-dry wines. Something for everyone’s palate.

One last winery I cannot leave out is Filipo Marc Winery, located at 39085 Garfield in Clinton Township. In 2004 when new owners, Tressa & Gerard Giacona took over, there were only 8 varieties of wine. Today there are over 70 varieties!! Lots of choices.

Make sure if you are partaking in the tasting that you designate a driver. I know. Sorry, but I’m old school. Want my peeps to remain safe! Have a good time and enjoy!!
