Parking –  The City provides a Resident Permit only Parking program to certain streets located in the downtown area. Each property located along these streets are entitled to two passes per household and 2 guest passes.

Traffic – Ferndale has a pretty stable flow. There are typical delays in the downtown area and surrounding outskirts during rush hour. 

Economic: The unemployment rate is 5.1% (U.S. avg. is 5.2%). Recent job growth is Positive. Ferndale jobs have increased by 1.78%.


In 1918, Ferndale was incorporated as a village, which led it to its incorporation as a city in 1927. Because of its close proximity to Detroit, Ferndale quickly became a community for Detroit workers. The peak in its housing growth was gauged between 1920-1951. There was a trolley available in the median strip of Woodward Ave. from downtown Detroit to Pontiac in the ’50s, which allowed northern Suburbans to grow as people had access to the city for work and shopping.
